The Art and Science of Putting

[Page 1] [Page 2] [Page 3]

Artistic Putters Emply the Following Techniques:

1. Slow stroke
2. Even cadence
3. Long stroke
4. Putter head stays low throughout complete stroke
5. Shoulders, neck, & jaw completely relaxed

Scientific Putters Emply the Following Techniques:

1. Eyes directly over the ball
2. Weight equally distributed between right and left feet
3. Absence of wrist hinging during stroke
4. Blade square during stroke

In some respects, improving your putting science will
automatically improve your putting art. For example, if you
eliminate wrist flop, the putter will as a by product, stay
lower.

Putting performance, like every other aspect of golf and most
other activities is very equipment intensive. Your putter
should have these characteristics:

Weight:

Reason: A light putter encourages a wristy slapping stroke. A
heavy putter encourages a slow, non-percussive stroke.

Rocker:

Reason: You can position your eyes directly over the ball. A
rocker sole has the added advantage of allowing you to
maintain the eyes over the ball position on side hill lies.

Center Shafted:

Reason: Facilitates eyes over ball position. Encourages more
solid contact. Prevents blade swivel on long putts.

Flat Top Grip:

Reason: Make proper blade alignment easy.

Firm:

Reason: The last thing we want is kick. We want the ball to
stay on the blade as long as possible.

Note: When you watch artistic putters you will observe that
the ball appears to be dragged or smoothed along the grass.
Inartistic putters tends to pop the ball quickly off the face of
the putter.

After you have acquired my WHO-DINNI® putter or some
other putter that has the most of the features noted above,
you're ready to instantly and dramatically improve your
putting.
