Question from Jong: Wrist Cock

Dear Bob:

I have been golfing for almost 6 years and have a handicap of 15. Thesedays, i am trying to delay left wrist cocking for as long as possible and i feel increased club head speed. However, my left hand finger joints started to bother me. The joints are hurting because during the follow through, the club is pulling my fingers. Am i gripping too hard? Is it normal and should i keep practicing? I love the added distance. Thank you for your answer.

Dear Jong:

Couple thoughts for you. Playing with graphite shafts will help, another is make sure your chin is pointed to the right until after impact and let your hands release more naturally when the chin is pointed right. The lower body responds better which increases power without having to think about or control your wrist cock and release.
