Dear Tiger,

Everybody knows you're good, the question is, why? For some time, I have said that you are the prototype “Automatic Golfer”. Here are some of the reasons:

1. You stand too close to the ball. This enables you to use your power fearlessly because it gives you a linear club path that encourages accuracy.
2. You have a proper grip.
3. Your hands are very, very quiet throughout the swing and consequently, you have a very wide arc.
4. You develop your power through the utilization of the large mucsles in rather than the hands.

All of the above means that you can truly “grip it and rip it” and still keep it in play.

John Daly, another golfer who I admire, manipulates the club with his hands to such an extent that he cannot produce a consistant shot pattern.
