Bob Writes To Tom Watson
Dear Tom,
My mate and I love to see you play well and would like to see you win. We each
have our own reasons. She feels that you have dignity and class. I feel that
your golf swing personifies the Automatic Golf method. You keep in motion
before the shot. You initiate your motion with the lower body and you generally
employ the large muscles to propel the club on an excellent path down the
line toward the target.
We are both pleased to hear that you have opted to
follow your wife's and your father in law's advice and not to complain
about your putting. That's a good start. However, you do have a mechanical
issue relative to your putting that will be easy for you to straighten
out. You're carrying more than half your weight on your left side
when you putt. This is causing you all to often to cut the putt and
spin it out to the right.
Lee Janzen and Corey Pavin
are ideal role models. They both have a Zen like attitude as they
allow the putter to pass
freely along the intended path without any "try." Because you are
trying too hard, you are placing too much weight on the left side.
This is de-lofting the putter and causing the blade to have a tendency
to open. As soon as you balance your weight equally on both feet
and allow the putter to move freely under your chin, you will return
to your glory days.
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
