Bob Writes To Nick Faldo
Dear Nick,
I had intended to write to Ernie Els this week, I'm going to put that off because
my advice to you ties in with a question from a junior golfer Matthew, from
Loganville, GA. Interestingly, Matthew lives on Big Game Way in Loganville
and I want to talk about your "Big Game." You already have a helluva short
game (on which you are too dependent.)
The word is that you maintain a very high level of
fitness which you have achieved through an extensive training program.
That's great, I'm all for it! However in your case the excessive
training has inhibited your flexibility and removed some of the rhythmic
flair required to play golf at a top world class level.
First, replace your strength training with flexibility
sessions. I am mailing you my Isometric Stretch video which will
help you a great deal.
Secondly, practice a lot with your driver, attempting
to hit the ball as far as you can with little concern for the direction.
This will loosen you up and stretch you out. Play some music while
practicing as it may further increase your freedom and bring a sense
of dance, fun, and child-like play back into your game.
A question for
you. Is it true that when you asked Ben Hogan how to win the National
Open, he said "shoot a lower score
than the other guys"?
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
