Question from Basit: From The Rough
Dear Basit: I
am not going to answer your first question because the issue of distance
and slicing has been dealt with repeatedly and you can find the answers
in past letters.
Your second question is excellent and unique.
If the course that you play most frequently
has a lot of rough, you should acquire a seven wood. The compactness
of the head and its knobby shape make the seven wood an ideal tool
for extracting the ball from long grass. As a bonus it is also great
for long bunker shots. The loft gets the ball airborne over the lip
of the trap. The sole plate prevents the club from digging in.
If you would like to arrange for a risk
free test drive of my seven wood call 1-800-LUV-GOLF.
To extract the ball from the rough on shorter
shots you should use a sand wedge. The heavy head will work its way
through the grass better than other irons. The extreme loft will
get the ball up and out of the grass quickly. Play these shots with
an open stance. This will encourage a more upright swing and allow
the clubhead to move through the grass more easily.
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
