Question from Dale: Putter Selection
Dear Dale:
I have a very
favorable opinion of long putters. Particularly George Archer. He
is nearly 6' 5" and
one of the best putters I have ever seen.
OH! You mean long putters! I don't recommend
them for the following reason:
The butt end of an extremely overlength
putter is anchored about chest height. The movement is circular around
an axis of the anchor point. This means that the putter is coming
up off the green during the backswing and follow through. Great putting
is achieved by keeping the putter head low throughout the stroke.
If the choice is using a long putter or
having a flippy stroke with a conventional length putter, the long
putter is better. The best solution is to putt with firm wrists and
a standard length putter as demonstrated on my Automagic Putting
video. You can order a video free through this site.
Golfingly Yours,
