Question from Thomas: Pitching

Dear Thomas:

I wished you had asked the best method for extraditing the ball from green side rough. My answer would have been "pick it up when no one is looking and toss it up on the green". The situation is difficult even for touring pros because if you hit the ball firmly enough to ensure getting out of the rough, the tendency is too go to far. Be certain to carry a highly lofted wedge (60 degrees or more) if you find yourself in this situation often. Other than proper club selection and a lot of practice, I don't know any magical answer. If you find one, please to let me know (but don't tell anyone else.)

Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
