Question from John: Short Lob

Dear John:

Play this as you would a sand shot. Open the blade. Open your stance and pass the blade under the ball.

If the shot requires that you stop the ball very quickly because of an intervening trap, and a pin placement that is close to the side of the green from which you are approaching, grip the club extra lightly, and flop the club under the ball with a release of your hands.

All of this presumes that the grass is long, but not wiry or overly dense. If you get in that situation, just hack it out the best you can in a safe direction.

Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
