Question from Dennis: Fairway Woods
Dear Dennis:
Whenever I hear about a group of clubs
within a set that perform differently from the rest of the set, I
suggest that the golfer 1st look at the equipment before questioning
one's technique.
Perhaps your
fairway woods are out of sync with the balance of your clubs. You
should check the swing weights,
lie angle, face angle, flex etc.. You may wish to call 1-800-LUV-GOLF and
arrange for a risk free test of a set of our clubs.
As for the issue
of closing the face; it's not as bad an idea as it sounds. Opening
the face of any club encourages
even more opening during the back swing. This is a disaster as it
is virtually impossible to re-time the closing of the club accurately
on the downswing. On the other hand, hooding the club encourages
an action that produces solidly struck shots. However, if you are
going to slightly hood (close) the club at address, you should do
so with all of your clubs. This gets back to having a properly matched
set that suits your game.
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
