Question from Richard: Equipment

Dear Richard:

Whenever I hear that a golfer is getting good results with irons or woods but not the other, I immediately suggest that you determine the specifications of the clubs with which you are enjoying success and determine if the unsuccessful group are different.

If the issue is not equipment related, you need to assess how you are hitting your long irons compared to you middle and short irons. If you are consistent with your middle and short irons but are having difficulty with the long irons you will continue experiencing difficulty with the woods.  In that event, the equipment that needs checked out is you. Hitting the longer shafted clubs successfully requires greater flexibility (see letter to tour pro Nick Faldo.)

Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
