Question from Dusty: Consistency
Dear Dusty:
The
best drill for evoking consistency is the three quarter swing punch
shot with a middle iron. This is described briefly on the freeview
of my Specialty Shots video.
Most golfers
have great difficulty hitting a punch shot because they scoop it
with their hands. The shortened
swing frustrates a hands swinger because he/she cannot generate any
power when they first try this shot. With practice you will
learn to hit the ball as far with a three quarter swing as you presently
do with a full swing (once you quiet the hands and hit this shot
with the legs.) For most golfers this does not happen overnight.
With persistence you will prevail.
The reason that the punch shot is so valuable
in improving consistency is that once you learn to hit this shot
with quiet hands, your club head will stay on line throughout the
impact zone and tighten your shot pattern. You will become Mr. Consistent.
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
