Question from Alex: Key to Consistency

Dear Alex:

Consistent shot patterns and the resulting low scores are produced by training one's hands to move back and forth along the target line through the impact zone. Most golfers swing their hands around their spine and must re-time precisely to hit a straight shot.

The drill for training your hands along the target line is seen in my new TV show "Solid Golf" and will be seen on a soon to be released but yet untitled video.

Here's the drill:

Lay three clubs on the ground about 8 inches apart pointed in the direction of the target. Place a ball between the two clubs that are farthest from you when you take your stance. Select a middle iron and choke it down about three or four inches when gripping your club.

Practice swinging the club back and forth along the channel created by the two clubs which are closest to you. Without discontinuing your motion, step in and strike the ball that is between the two clubs most distant from you.

Do all the above with no more than a 3/4 swing. When you finish the swing, the club with which you struck the ball should be pointed at the target.

Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
