Question from Jeff: Body Alignment
Dear Jeff: Pointing
your naval at the target is definitely not your umbilical cord to
success. Maintaining this thought as a mental image
or objective will cause you to swing the club in a circular fashion
around your body instead of down the line towards your target. See
newsletter volume 1. Depending on your flexibility, you may finish
your swing with your naval pointed to the left or right of the target,
but it is of no consequence.
Lining up a shot on target is an issue with all players
at all levels of competence, all the time. The best formula is to stand
behind the ball looking toward the target and to select a divot or
leaf or some other spot on the ground about 4 or 5 feet in front of
your ball that is on the target line. When you take your stance, you
can determine that you are on line by focusing on the ball and the
target spot.
As to pulling your head out all the time, I infer that
you do this because you have already pulled out all you hair because
of you futile efforts to line up your naval. The best way to keep your
head in the proper position is to turn you chin to the right before
you start your back swing and concentrate on maintaining that position
until after impact. This is also covered in the news letter as very
completely on my videos.
Golfingly Yours,
Bob Mann
